Blue Harring

Take off

Going up river

A slow beautiful ride up river

Dean shows a bit too much leg - scary!

Afer having lunch we made a stop at the north end of Upper Priest lake and got a show.

Young Moose in the river between upper and lower Priest lake

This guy just want to eat, eat, eat. He didn't care that we were floating by.

A week with Marty

We went up to Sand Point, Idaho again this
year. It is in the most norhtern part of Idaho
and is very pretty up there. We have a great time
with some of our good friends. Marty and Dawn
Downen are our gracious hosts. Tris and Stefanie
Cannon, and Dean and Rochelle Bloomquist also go up.

145 miles an hour around a real race track

It is pretty cool driving one of these monsters around the track at that speed. I prayed alot that those tires would hold in the turns. We went as fast as they are allowed to take us. Definitely worth doing at least once.

Richard Petty Racing Experiance

For my brother's 40th birthday, his wife sent him to the Richard Petty Racing Experiance. She asked if I would go with him. I jumped at the chance. My brother-in-law Dana had done it a few years before and he loved it. I have to agree, we had a great time. We had to go twice because I beat Brian the first time. The highlight of his day was when they told me I had beat my son. So we negociated for a 2nd run. He beat me on the 2nd run.

The stream behind the cabin

We are on the north side of the stream. Randy's cabin is on the south side a few hundred yards up stream. To the right of this is the rail road bridge that denotes where you are allowed to get in the water.

It's very small but has potential

My sister Shirl called one day back in June and asked if I was interested in going in on a cabin with her up in Island Park Idaho. It sits along the the river just down stream from Big Springs head water spring. Just behing those trees lies the crystal clear stream. Moose wander through the forest.

A lazy big old Elk

As we were winding or way up the road this old guy wandered accross the road into the field and sat himself down. He stayed there for a few hours. We figured it was his day for photo opts. He was still there on our way back after seeing old faithful.

Fall Colors

Along the drive up into West Yellowstone there were many beautiful sites to see

Buffalo wondering through the stream

On our way up to see old Faithful we came across this guy. He spent about 15 minutes drinking and crossing then he ran over to a field and grazed for hours.

Old Faithful

We had a quick trip up to see our tiny cabin in Island Park Idaho. It was raining on Saturday so we took a drive up to Yellowstone. Old Faithful is about an hour away. I fall colors where amazing.

We lucked out with another nice day at the beach

We headed down to Ventura Beach, picked up lunch at IN & OUT, and hit the beach. It was a nice day, not as warm as it has been but still for February, you can not beat it. Kyle played in the sand, we threw the football, had lunch, and relaxed. Very nice. We then decided to stop by Debi's sister's house on the way home. It was dinner time so we took them out to dinner and had a nice evening.
When we arrived home we watched the Basketball Allstar show off night and it was amazing. Kyle didn't want to go to bed when Heather put him down so, he came back down and sat with us when mom wasn't there to stop him. I think that was the first time he opened his bedroom door by himself. They are in trouble now. He wanted to stay up with the big boys.
We missed having TJ down so Debi baked some cookies for James to take back up for TJ. James has senior fever, he is ready to be done with school. He came down for a few days to get away from school.

Another pretty day at the beach in February

Kyle loves to build things and then tear them down!
We decided to run down to the beach as it was 75 degrees, pure sun, and a lite breeze.
We took the dogs, flew the kite, threw rocks in the ocean, dug in the sand, relaxed, and even saw some pirate ships out taping another movie shooting canons at each other. Video to come.

Kayaking in Malibu with the Dolphins

Here come the dolphins up the coast and they stopped by to say hi on their journey. Kyle calls them whales. He likes fishies.

Kayaking Malibu with the Dolphins

January 19th was a beautiful day so we decided we could not waste it and borrowed a couple of Kayaks from some friends and headed down to Malibu pier. I helped Heather and Ben and Kyle get out and they got hit my a small wave. Heather took the brunt of it but they straightened out and headed out to see. Then I pulled up my kayak which is a little too small for me due to my abundance of self. I waited for the sets to come through and climbed on. I paddled twice and fell over. Luckily the wave was on the way out and and it was only 2 feet deep. I climbed right back on and headed out to sea. Debi missed my graceful bail out and recovery and caught me on film as I remounted and headed out to catch Heather and Ben. If you notice, Kyle did not want to be on that kayak. He settled down and enjoyed the ride once he was out there. While we were out a pod of about 10 dolphins came by in pairs. They would go under the water about the time they were with in 20 or so feet of the kayaks and either go right under us or to one side and resurface about 50 feet past us. I only had my small digital camera with me and tried to not tip over while taking some pictures. I posted the best shot I had of a pair coming up just behind and off the side of Heather. Kyle calls them Whales. He was only about 25 feet from them and got a great view of these magnificent mammals as they said hi and went on by up the coast.  We started to follow for a bit but I knew we would have a hard time keeping up so we returned to the pier and finish a cruise by the beach and rocks just of shore and then landed safely on shore. What a beautiful day and fortunate opportunity we had. Heather and Ben and Kyle went for a walk down the beach to the rocks and tide pools and played for a while and then came back and dug holes in the sand.

Fun in the snow

Fun in the snow

Saturday the 26th we decided to run up to the snow. Kyle had never seen the snow. So we drove up to Frazier Park. When we came up on the off ramp it was backed up for about a mile. We decided to go past that exit to the next and there were no cars there and we back tracked a mile to town. As we started up the road we saw that the sheriffs were stopping every one and turning them back. I noticed the frontage road was open, we had already passed the sheriff on that road so I crossed over and went up and by the sheriffs and up to the park. No one else got by. The sheriffs just kind a looked at us and didn't say anything as we slid by. Up at the park the snow was about a foot deep and we made a snow man. Kyle was asleep on the way up and it took him a while to wake up. He was not sure about the snow and he was a bit cold. He helped a little with the snow man and he throw a few snow balls. It was nice to get out and play in the snow. Lady went with us and had fun being with us in the snow. She has been in it a few times before up in Utah.
